The Amherst A66 is a compact and lightweight little radio, offering "licenced radio" performance at a price that is less than many lower-powered PMR446 radios.

PRICE RANGE

£39 + VAT each, with discounts for multiple purchases down to £25 + VAT each if you buy a lot of them together.

WHAT YOU GET

The A66 is sold singly, comes with a 1000mAh Lithium Ion rechargeable battery pack and a mains charger a bit like a phone charger.

PROS

The A66 is a remarkable radio for the low price. It looks and feels like a "proper" professional radio, being a simple, easy-to-use "black box" with an on/off/volume control and a channel selector knob.

It does offer some extra features, such as voice scrambling and VOX (Voice Activated Transmit) which are not often found on radios at this low price level.

CONS

The A66 has only 3 watts power output, so it is not the most powerful radio on the market. It doesn't have the usual "drop in" desk charger cradle, but for the exceptionally cheap sale price this is not a big worry.

VERDICT

The new A66 offers amazing value for money - we love it!

PROS

The Kirisun PT4200 offers professional and solid construction quality.

The "drop-in" desk charger is simplicity itself to use. 

CONS

The Kirisun PT4200 is an older design, although this doesn't detract from its basic functionality.

VERDICT

The long-selling Kirisun PT4200 walkie-talkie has provided thousands of customers with a good, solid hard-working radio. Unfortunately the PT4200 is not currently available for sale, consider the Kirisun PT568 instead, or the Quansheng TG330 which offers the same performance at around half the price.

The Kirisun PT568 is a very robust, professional-quality 4 watt walkie-talkie that has been a best seller for many years.

It is IP65 rated which means it is fine to use in dusty and wet environments. It also has an extra-loud speaker, making it ideal for use in noisy environments, such as factories, oor outdoors.

CONS

It is fairly expensive, although you do get the quality you pay for!

VERDICT

The best-selling Kirisun PT568 is a very robust walkie-talkie and a good choice where it is to be used every day and especially in challenging environments.
